Filmage [Jun. 19th, 2009|07:22 am]

Alien prequel, Total Recall remake, Dune reboot, new Futurama, Ghostbusters III filming soon, Little Brother opined, no live action Akira?

2012 looks like a bit of a disaster. And ohh, OFFLINE. Just a promo reel though.

Augmented Reality stepping up [Jun. 17th, 2009|04:57 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , ]

Couple of things out in the last few days on AR;

“Layar shows you what is around you by displaying realtime digital information on top of reality through the camera of the mobile phone. Just flip through the directory of layers and find ATM’s, bars, houses for sale, hotels and other cool stuff around you.” link

and

ARhrrrr! Augmented Reality Zombie and Helicopter Game “Our primary motivation for this AR game was to explore fast-action first-person augmented reality, where the camera controls and movement that would typically require a mouse and keyboard are handled directly by simply moving the device. Advanced tracking technology allows the player to quickly zoom in and out and view the world at steep angles, making this a highly interactive and engaging game.” link

And if you missed it, Google released their Sky Map app for android phones a few weeks ago - PR video here, basic demo video here.

Aaaand if you missed it way back in 2002, ARQuake (plus other AR videos).

Has anyone tried Auto Gordian Knot for DVD ripping? I’m [again] looking for an elegant DVD to MKV on the back of reading this /. post. Uh, not that I have the space to actually try it out right now..

Video codecs [Sep. 16th, 2007|04:22 pm]

I recently switched from using the windows K-Lite video codec pack to CCCP, mainly due to K-Lite's buggy playback of the .mkv format. So far the only problem I've had is the fact that Real Alternative and QuickTime Alternative aren't bundled in the CCCP install, no biggie really, although while CCCP seems to be updated fairly regularly and has a KISS philosophy, it might turn out to be too simple for myself in the future. Does anyone have any recommendations for alternative codec packs they've had an on-going good experience with?
